Banana Bonkers

Its an Addiction.

Good Morning, Y’all!!!

Guess wat happened? I can’t believe it myself.

I had thot that after completing my Passion Run in June and most recently the Shape Run last week, I was done and over with RUNS for this year. At least that’s what I thot….

I was so SURE that I didn’t need to train anymore for the rest of the year, and was quite happy about that, “NO MORE RUNS AND TRAINING FOR ME!!! Until next year…”, I told Jono right after the Shape Run on Sunday.

Unfortunately for me, or for my pocket or whatever that makes any sense, a few days ago Rachel asked me if I was going to join the Nike+ 10km Human Race.

Low and behold, I was lead to check out the website about informations on the runs (DAMMIT!!!). Of cos, since I was at the website checking out the cost and the route of these runs, I couldn’t resist browsing through details of the goodie bag, how the runner’s tee looks like, and what other entitlements came along with the registrations. SIGHZ…I HAD to check out the NIKE website, but was unable to get more information from them, because of some stupid FLASH program they had that I needed to load, but my dumb office pc can’t, so I had to check out some other Avid-Runner’s blog to find out more details.

Got what I needed but unable to register for the run from work. I knew that the Runner’s tee was pretty cool, cos you’d actually get your bib numbered custom printed on your own tee, which means its permanent and you can’t be wearing other tee and tag on your bib, but it also means you’d have to wear their runner’s tee, which didn’t look very comfortable for running at 4.30pm in the evening at all – under the hot evening sun!!! But overall the whole goodie bag thingy looks pretty good!

The race pack is an exclusive event pack which consists of

  • Nike+ Human Race Tee (material: sphere dri-fit, based on US sizing)
  • A loaned ChampionChip device
  • A Nike+ Human Race 10 Tote Bag
  • Nike Waterbottle
  • Other goodies (To Be Updated)

UNFORTUNATELY!!!! When I manage to get my hands on the website somewhere else, I was told that most sizes for female were OUT!!! Only left with xs! HOW am I gonna fit into an XS? NIke clothes are Miniature, Puiny! And how on earth can anyone run comfortably in such a TINY tee??? Worse of all, not like you can just join the run and choose to wear your own running singlet, and keep the NIke one for Going-Out purpose. DAMMIT!!!!

SO I RESIGN TO FATE AND LATENESS. And decided against joining, because I have no choice. Maybe next year!

BUT I was not done yet! I refused to let fate take me down and stop me even for one bit, amidst looking through the websites and reading through other Running-Fanatics blog, I stumbled upon ANOTHER RUN!!! The Great Eastern Women 10km. Had to go check it out!!!http://www.runningsucks.blogspot.com/

I AM, I AM!!! Hands Up! I am guilty as charged, I am GUILTY and indeed I am a SUCKER For FREEBIES OR GOODIE BAGS!!! Needless to say, I was drawn by the goodies of the registrations. I mean look at what The Great Eastern Women’s Run was providing for the applicants!! The adidas running tee and the bag is IRRESISTABLE!!! I just couldn’t help it lar. I mean why not? Its pretty worth it, considering that you are paying like $35 for the run’s registration and it comes with Adidas running tee plua a runner’s kit. Of cos, I understand the concept behind it – paying for the tee instead of the run. But really, why not?! If I go to adidas and pay $35 for that same running tee, I don’t get anything else besides the price tag and a black Adidas paper bag, and a burn in my wallet. So why not pay $35 for the tee and get a run organised by some big company, plus a bag and a couple of other insignificant goodies by the sponsors. It makes sense to me. :)

Ok. So at first, it was just the Nike+ Human Race which I couldn’t take part in because of circumstances, then I was made more aware of the Great Eastern Run, and guess what happens? I went to fill in my particulars and paid $35 online with my credit card. What a SUCKER!!!!

Thats not all, Folks!!! Cos later that night, I found out about the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon held on Dec 7 ‘08, and I took part in the 10km run!!! GOSH! I AM CRAZY!!!!

What have I become? Obsessed with running? Thats so unlike me. I was never a running person in the first place, or thats what I thot. I know I still ain’t one. I HATE RUNNING!!! I always say that! But do I really? I am not sure anymore. hahahaha…MAD! I dun even like running around parks or on the pavement along HDB estates, so why am I even running and taking part in these runs and training? But one thing’s for sure, I LOVE listening to music! I could run and walk a long distance just to be able to listen to blast my iPod and listen to my songs on my playlist. Ok! So, I still duno why I am joining run after run, and there just isn’t anything to stop me at this moment.

To date, I have joined 2 runs under my belt, and am tied down to another 2, a 5km Fun Run for Great Easter, and a 10km for Standard Chartered. I think thats really all for me for this year. Its not alot compared to those Marathon participants out there, to thinkthey participate in FULL MARATHON, while I take on only the smaller runs. So its no big deal actually, I wonder if I’d ever get bored and the fire die down, before I even try to take on the 21km (Half Marathon). Even 15km looks pretty tough for me, talk about 21km, 42km is absolutely far-fetch and almost impossible for me. “Will I ever get close to that???” I wonder to myself. I hope to, one day!

At this point, I think I can safely say, that I am addicted to joining mini-marathons (thats what I call it, since its only 5 or 10km compared to the REAL DEAL)

So, I told Jono last nite, that I had registered for the Stand Chartered run and the Great Eastern run, and he gave me a look, which I couldn’t quite comprehend. It was like, “What? Another run? You must be kidding me! This girl is mad! My Girlfriend is going crazy!” or it could also be, “She’s joking rite? Sure or not? Wah! SIAO AH! Oh No, she’s gng to ask me to join again!”, but then maybe he thot, “Wah, another one? WOW this Girl really loves running, and she’s also a SUCKER for FREEBIES!”. But this is actually what I recalled him saying after giving me that curious look,” Wah?! When is it? How far? Whats the route? How much?….Join Join Join….”, “How come ah?”, he continued, referring to what I said about me over with runs for this year.

“I dunno? I also thot I was over. But apparently I am not. I think I am addicted to marathons.” I replied honestly.

“Really meh? So good meh? But why ah?” he’s still unable to comprehend the enthusiast.

“I dunno leh. Its different. You want to join? Don’t run lar, walk lar. I don’t think I can complete the 10km on this route without walking also. Its not abt winning anyway or even to compete in the run. Its the feeling, the whole event gives you, the ambience, the crowd, its very fun and exciting. I think thats why I am addicted.” I explained, still puzzled.

“hmm…I dunno, 10km cannot lar, 5km maybe lar. I walk lar. Dun want lar.” he’s still thinking about it.

I do not want and don’t like to pressure him into doing something he doesn’t like doing, I know he hates running, he repeatedly told me so. And it would soon become sickening if I keep pushing him till he is oblige to, but still, I secretly hope that one day he will be willing to join on his own accord tho, cos I can imagine how cool it will be if we could take part together as a couple, prepare and go down together marathon location, wear the same running tee and prepare our running gear and experience the whole marathon experience together as a couple among a massive population of  participants from all walks of life. Even to walk through the route, will definitely be a memorable event and funfilled activity.

Here’s a couple of links you can look up, to check out more info about upcoming runs. These people are running enthusiasts, or at least some of them are.

hey i bloghopped to your journal when i clicked on my shape run tag. :)

i wanted to join the nikerun too but didn’t have any cash when they still stocked enough sizes for the women. total bleh. in anycase, think i can consider myself mini-marathoner! am gonna be running for great eastern too! :)

Yeah we’re the Mini-marathoners then!!! Which catergory are you running for in the G.E Run? How often and where do you usually train for your runs?
Well, hope to see ya at the run then!!! Train hard and play hard too!!

There’s this old saying that goes:

“People who run .. are people who have lost their minds. Do not taint the purity of sleeping in on Sundays … to do that crazy thing, to run.”

I think it was by some Nepalese wise old lady.. the name got cat inside or what.

I have also heard that marathons and goody bags are actually a huge conspiracy uhuh. Conspiracy by whom for what the Nepalese wise old lady haven’t told me yet.

:D
